“Football’s A Passionate Game And Too Many Cretins Just Don’t Understand It.”

How stupid Mike McCurry and his cronies at the Scottish Referees Association made themselves look this week. Celtic’s Neil Lennon was out of order at the end of the last Old Firm match and deserved his three-match ban and full marks to the SFA for handing him one. But for the Scottish Referees Association to come out and criticise the ban and threaten strike action because of how ‘leniant’ it was is a bad joke. They’re just showing how out of touch with the game and its players they really are. Mike McCurry should be too embarrassed to say anything about the Rangers-Celtic match considering his own performance. The rash first-half sending off of Alan Thompson for an awkward challenge 40-yards from goal ruined the balance of an enticing contest and led to Lennon’s outburst in the matches aftermath.

No contact was made by Lennon on McCurry. So what does the ref want? Blood? Prison? Football’s a passionate game, not for the meek- hearted, and too many of these cretins just don’t understand it.

It’s words and actions like these that add more credence to the Old Firm’s call for officials from outside of Scotland to come in for the derby and give it some balance. Damn fools.
