Hello to you all once again and hope you are well. Apologies that I have not updated the article recently but I have been in America doing research for the site – we hope to show you our developments in the next few months.
My thanks to the wonderful letters and comments I have received lately with your suggestions for the site and the column. We are glad that it has started off so well and we are delighted that it has been so well received and supported.
I would also like to thank those who have submitted articles over the last few weeks. Keep them coming, we try and publish as many as we can so keep trying if your one’s are not currently showing.
The sporting highlight this weekend is England vs Austria at Old Trafford. England will be looking to put the Irish humiliation behind them and continue their progress to Germany 2006. I expect Peter “will I score this season Crouch” and Michael “it’s colder in Newcastle than Madrid” Owen to start up front. Jamie Carragher is expected to fill in for Ashley Cole at left back with Sol Campbell partnering Rio Ferdinand at the back – which is if not the best certainly the tried and tested combination.
The team should start as follows:
Crouch Owen
Cole Lampard Gerrard Beckham
Carrager Ferdinand Campbell Young
Robinson
England know that a defeat is not the end of the world because results could help them elsewhere, having said that the knives are out for Sven so expect them to really going at the Austrians, who are the not the greatest team in the world. They will be difficult to break down initially but a goal just before the break will settle the nerves I expect England to run out comfortabl winner. I predict England 2 – 0 Austria. To increase you value I always like to go with David Beckham to score first. He is usually around 8/1 which is not bad considering he takes all the free kicks and penalties.
As I write this the World Eleven have just been stuffed by Australia in the first world series cricket match. At least it makes England’s ashes’s win look that much better!
Andrew Murray goes from strength to strength in the tennis. He reached his first ATP final last week against the legend that is Roger Federer. I wonder what the odds are that these to meet at a Wimbledon final over the next few years? We can dream I guess!
Before I go I see that Ronnie O’Sullivan is taking part in just 6 snooker tournaments this year and will concentrate on the World Pool competition. This is a blow for snooker as he is still the number 1 attraction. Let’s hope he comes back soon.
Pick of the Tips
I will stick my neck out and say that Holland will beat the Czech Republic this weekend which will pretty much guarantee England qualifying for the world cup next year.
