Ponting - run out (Pratt) by Carrie Dunn

Whisper this, for we do not want to tempt fate. If England do indeed win the Ashes, the only thing that could make it any sweeter would be if Ricky Ponting got the sack.

Having been fined 75% of his fourth Test match fee for his whinging and whining, the man still hasn't shut up.

You'll remember he stomped off to the pavilion cursing Duncan Fletcher and the population of England after he was run out by a fantastic piece of fielding by substitute Gary Pratt.

Even after having his money taken away from him, he continues his complaining, plaintively proclaiming: "I think it's an absolute disgrace the spirit of the game is being treated like that...it is within the rules, it's just not within the spirit of the game."

We're not entirely sure what he thinks England should have done, with Simon Jones immobile and thus requiring a substitute (indeed, Trevor Penney took to the field all day on Sunday in Jones's place). In fact, considering Ponting's stance on substitutes, we were amazed to see Brad Hodge wander on the field in place of Michael Clarke during England's second innings.

Is this a case of do as I say, not do as I do? Or is it the desperation of a man under pressure to retain the Ashes and keep his job?
